Economic Alliance Member Invitation: Congressional Candidate Forum

This Election season we will host two forums for the U.S. House 2nd District candidates. Before voting takes place, these forums provide Economic Alliance members access to the Congressional candidates vying to represent us in Washington, D.C. The forums are sponsored by the Cedar Rapids Area Association of Realtors and allow the candidates to share their priorities for Iowa, listen to the business community’s priorities and interact with Q&A time. Space is limited and registration is required. These forums are closed to the media.

Advocacy Work Gearing Up

Now is the time of year when our public policy team begins building our federal and state advocacy agenda for next year. Economic Alliance Public Policy Strategist Barbra Solberg holds numerous meetings with members and key stakeholders from across the state to develop the agenda that will best represent Economic Alliance member needs.

Using our guiding principles, and unfinished work from previous years, we begin seeking input on what priorities our members want us to concentrate on in the coming year. Feedback from member meetings, direct input from our Innovation Councils, Policy Board and other governance committees provides us with direction on policy matters our members want us to engage in. We also work in sync with our regional partners on the municipal and county levels, as well as Greater Iowa City, Inc.

We also collaborate with other likeminded statewide partners from the Iowa Association of Business & Industry (ABI), the Professional Developers of Iowa (PDI) and others, including the Iowa Chamber Alliance (ICA). ICA represents Iowa’s largest economic development organizations and Chambers of Commerce throughout the state. The ICA coalition focuses on pro-growth, pro-business and forward-thinking statewide policies that make Iowa stronger.

  • Do you have ideas that will improve Iowa’s business environment?
  • What policies should we enact to grow Iowa’s workforce population?
  • How can we enhance our communities and make them more attractive to retain and recruit employees?

Weigh in now with your ideas for our 2025 public policy priorities. Please complete this short survey or contact the Economic Alliance’s public policy strategist, Barbra Solberg with your ideas, suggestions and comments.
